Description
The Byzantine St Demetrius. The patron saint of the city of Thessalonica and a very popular Greek orthodox Saint. His name day is on October 26th and it actually marks the beginning of winter in my country.
St Dimitrios the Myrhh- gusher is painted as faithfully as possible, to the old byzantine art of iconography. That includes:
- A first drawing on a specially prepared a hard birch plywood panel.
- The use of the eggtempera technique. In this technique we mix pigment (mineral) powders with egg and vinegar. Then we apply them layer upon layer to create the painting.
- When the painting is dried we add shellac and varnish to “seal” the colors and create an artifact that will last.
The icon of St Demetrius of Thessalonica also comes with the proper gift wrapping assorted with some little extras from our shop, perfect for a gift!
