Description
A contemporarty St Mary of Egypt. A figure that , despite the nudity, appears fleshless, ethereal. One of the saints that no-one may notice their old age or nakedness. Her life is a reminder that sinners can be saints and that everybody holds an angel within.
Maria Aegyptiaca is hand painted on a slice of a birchwood branch. The uneven piece was treated specially in order to be painted with egg tempera. I followed the curvature and the lines of the wood. This is especially obvious on the lateral sides, where I added her hands and long white hair.
The piece is perfect for the icon corner. It comes prepared as a gift with a hanger on the back and the name on the Saint added there.
