The icon of the venerated St Hilda of Whitby The Saint of the united Church,  is painted in the byzantine style with egg tempera. The surface is a gessoed panel measuring 17cm x 22cm approx.

Description

St Hilda of Whitby, the Abbess of the great Abbey in Yorkshire. St Hilda was a woman renowned for her superb knowledge and one of the first saints of the British Isles. She is dressed in white and blue- and as a founding member (ktetor in Greek) she is holding the abbey at her hand.

The materials we used for the creation of this icon were:

  • A specially prepared gessoed plywood
  • Eggtempera and copper gold
  • Resin varnish and finally a metal hanger on the back

The icon of the Abbess of Whitby is prepared as a gift. It also comes assorted with some little extras from our shop
