Description
This is St Nicholas the Navigator. He is meant to protect sailors and drive everybody back safe to our seas, the Aegean and its biggest island Crete!
The icon is painted with eggtempera after a famous representation of St Nicholas base on the school of Novgorod
The materials I used for the piece are the following:
- I made the painting with eggtempera on a arch shaped wooden panel to look as a woindow
- I ve gessoed just the parts where the figures and left the wooden board obvious
- Eggtempera and copper gold have covered the surface
- While shellac and varnish have sealed the colors to produce an artifact that will last
