It is a fragment from the icon of Ipapanti. The moment whenfinally the righteous Elder and St Simeon the Godreceiver is to behold the Messaih. That’s what he was promised many many years ago.
The Most Holy Theotokos and St Joseph had brought the Infant Jesus to fulfill the Law and St Simeon is taking the Divine Child in his arms uttering: Lord, now lettest Thou Thy servant depart in peace, according to Thy word…..; (Luke 2:29)
The technique we are using for the creation of this icon portrait is the same that were used for centuries in traditional iconography. The materials used for the creation of the piece are:
- A wooden board with a metal hanger on the back
- Egg tempera
- Shellac and varnish to seal the colors
- It bears the inscription Agios Symeon o Theodochos- literally translated as St Simeon the Godreceiver from Greek
The byzantine icon is packaged as a gift, together with some extras from our shop.
